The American Topical Association was founded in 1949 to serve philatelists who enjoy collecting stamp designs with specific themes such as butterflies, ships, maps, and dozens of other topics. It remains one of the most popular forms of collecting today. In 1973, the first officially recognized ATA souvenir card was issued, showing the ATA logo. ATA cards were issued by sponsoring chapters rather than the national organization. All were printed using commercial lithography or four-color process.

Because these cards were previously uncataloged, the SCCS has assigned temporary year-based numbering which will allow any new discoveries to be added easily. Permanent sequential numbers will eventually be assigned. Special thanks to Don Epp for researching and organizing the cards listed here.
